In My Head
Wellpoints and Fireflies
Welcome to the first issue of THE WELLPOINT: resources for living. This is the beginning of a new era in Columbus. From this point forward, individual and businesses that provide holistic services and products will have a home. This issue has had a long incubation period. Its birth materializes an idea; one which I hope develops and matures over time.
Upon arriving in Columbus in 1989, I was stuck by two facts: 1) there were many, many practitioners and services available in Columbus, and 2) there was no way to find them other than local bulletin boards. There was no way for a newcomer to access who-was-doing-what besides searching diligently at every coffe shop or health food store in town. It soon became clear that not everyone was promoting themselves this way, either. Columbus had an underground network of excellent providers, practitioners, healers, psychics, mediums, stores, and events that one could only access through others within that underground network.
Little had changed since then although the number of people and businesses that are serving this community has continued to grow - largely by word of mouth alone. While this is something to be proud of, certainly there must be many other who either seek goods and services or dream of werving a larger portion of the Columbus community. Unfortunately, there has never been an effective way for these groups to find one another. Fireflies in the early summer have better odds.
I can only speculate why this phenomenon might occur. Unseen forces, malevolent entities, negative thoughtforms, conspiracy theories could play a role, but my reason will not let me entertain these for long. I understand that some of the early pioneers in the Columbus community suffered much in the way of investigations and sanctions. That climate has changed, but the fear of reproach has caused many of us to continue to fly under the radar, hoping to go unnoticed except by those who have been, somehow, able to find us.
THE WELLPOINT is for each of us. A well point is defined in two ways: 1) the tip of a pipe driven into an underground water supply which allows the water to be pumped to the surface but leaves the soil and gravel below and 2) the opening point along an energetic acupuncture channel allowing for access to the energy which is contained along that line and corresponding organ. THE WELLPOINT: resources for living is both of those things. It is first a community resource - a place to find the energy we all need to continue and to heal. Secondly, it allows us to access all of the vast richness of a community which has been too long sequestered. THE WELLPOINT allows the abundance to surface, promoting our practices, professions, and businesses while supporting our city in its growth toward balance and wholeness.
I believe the time is right for a resource like this to succeed and thrive. I make THE WELLPOINT available to the Columbus community to be its clearinghouse of information, its central server, the builder of bridges, but truly, it belongs to us all. To date, the outpouring of support for this idea has been astonishing. I look forward to serving our community of practitioners, business and citizens as we all move toward health, balance, and wholeness.
Share this issue with a friend, share your comments with me, and share in the present and future richness of THE WELLPOINT!
Very truly yours,
